The Journey of twenty-two hundred miles begins with just a single step. Lao Tzu (paraphrased) This blog is mainly about my excursion upon the Appalachian Trail. This is a journey that has been 15 years in the planning stage and on March 20, 2022 it will see that plan being executed. Talladega National Forest.

My second three day weekend after I've gotten back on 12 hr shifts but I had agreed to work Saturday day and they wouldn't let me out of it so the weekend was split. Also Liam was having his 3rd birthday party on Saturday and I had to miss it. But I did go to Paris Mountain to bring him his presents, I'm sure by now his mom is muttering under her breath about me, on Friday night and I left out early Saturday morning, in time enough to go by the house and get my uniform and slop the cats.

Now Sunday morning was different. I got up, loaded up the truck and away I went to the Talladega National Forest to the Pine Glen Campgrounds to try out the new truck tent. Got there by noon and the grounds were empty.Set up camp and had to dodge a little rain at first but the tent kept dry. Then I went and did some walking on the Pinhoti Trail that runs across the northern part of the Forest and uses Pine Glen as a trailhead. Came upon some loggerhead snapping turtles that were mating and the female was modest and kept trying to get away when she saw me but the male was more of an exhibitionist, he didn't care who was getting cheep thrills by watching them.

'Course there was some ol' crazy codgers that kept following me around up there, looked like he might have been akin to ol' 'possum boy and must of thought I'd fed him. This his picture there.

That night I lit a small fire and watch the full moon for a while then I went to sleep.

The next day I broke camp and then went around looking, I first visited The Coleman's Family cemetery where there is a CSA veteran interned there.

Then I went down the suppose road to Sweetwater Lake. This is a road you want a 4 wheel drive going down or a comealong and cable halter. But the Lake here was beautiful, it also intersect the Pinhoti Trail and there is a boat ramp, but I don't recommend going down that access road with a boat on a trailer unless the trailer is a 4 wheel drive too.

I then got to the Coleman Lake Campground and looked around for a bit and then it was off to the Shoal Creek Church before I figured out how to get myself back home.
