Seems we've lost another house in Moreland due to a house fire, this one was on Victoria Street, and yes, it was one of the older ones. That makes about three in the last two years. This one was total. Nothing left but the foundation and the old brick chimney. I saw the smoke from the fire as I was coming into town from Newnan, and it was black like some sort of pertrolium was involved in the fire. Normal wood and such would produce a white or grayish smoke. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe some arson is involved.
I walked by later and looked from the road, the house was fairly close to the road, and there was still some small fires going on in the foundation but there was nothing left but ashes and a grayish white smoke. That had to be one hot fire to take that house out like that.
I'm not sure who the family was that lived there, but their mini-van was still in the yard, nor am I sure if there was anyone in it.
I've just did a search in the Newnan Times-Herald and came up with nothing, but maybe it'll be in the next addition. But I did find where a fire was on Martin Mill Rd towards the Gordon Rd end had also burned on Tuesday night, but they're not in our town limits.
I'll keep an eye out to see if anything more develops on the Victoria Dr. fire.

I have talked to Erin, who is a little more knowledgeable about what happen and seem that the house caught fire the night before, and no one was in it. However, it was so badly damaged that the insurance co. allowed the local fire to burn it completely down with a control burn. That is the part that I was, and explains the black smoke. I am sure that the fire department used diesel fuel to rekindle the fire.

I grew up 2 houses up (the grey house on the rd w/ the picket fence) Ms. McClendon always lived there with her adult son. She passed away sometime in 2007, and the son passed away sometime within the last 2 months. Nobody was living in that home.
