The Journey of twenty-two hundred miles begins with just a single step. Lao Tzu (paraphrased) This blog is mainly about my excursion upon the Appalachian Trail. This is a journey that has been 15 years in the planning stage and on March 20, 2022 it will see that plan being executed. Kralldaddy‘s Lodge

(unfortunately the Lodge is currently closed)

On my trip through Guntersville I stopped and stayed the night at a Bed and Breakfast just north of town called Kralldaddy’s Lodge.  It’s located 10 miles north of Guntersville on US 431 at the 308 mile marker.  The owner’s Kurt and his wife are from Ohio but don’t let that deter any southerner from wanting to stay there.  The hospitality is excellent!

When traveling from Guntersville, the driveway into the lodge is located just pass mile marker 308.  Once you see the mile marker then start slowing down or else you’ll miss it.  And if you do miss it then hang a right on Cottonville Rd and you should be able to enter into the back way

My visit was in the middle of the week and with luck there was no other lodgers at the time.  I met Kurt and  he gave me the Grand Tour of the Lodge that has a screen in porch, large living room, very nice dining room, kitchen, game room and a veranda.  The guest rooms consist of the for the Love of Baseball which has it’s own separate outside entry from the porch.  The Fisherman’s Retreat that has it’s own bathroom with a shower. And then there is the upstairs which is the Biker’s Bungalow; two separate bedrooms that can be rented separately or rented together and formed into a suite.  Each bathroom is supplied in towels and toiletries amenities.

Kurt was very helpful and friendly. I was soon talking to him as a friend that I’ve known for years.  He is very knowledgeable about the area and recommended to me an excellent restaurant in town.  Each of the bedrooms have their own TV connected to satellite but any that knows me knows I’m not a TV watcher so I never turned mine on, therefore I can not tell about which system was used and what selections for viewing there are.  Also there were big screen TV’s in both the living room and the game room.

The Lodge is Biker Friendly with Kurt having his own Harley cruiser and a bike tour can be arranged for the area with Kurt as your guide.  There is also a garage to park motorcycles in for the night plus tools if minor repairs are needed.

Being this is a Bed and Breakfast then the only meal provided is breakfast but a lodger still has use of the kitchen and can bring in items to cook themselves.  Kurt provides fruit, chips, and brownies for snacks.

The breakfast is something that Kurt will discuss the night before.  He will find out when his lodgers wants to eat and go over their options of what.  I had a breakfast of scrambled eggs with biscuits and gravy and fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee.  If Kurt has a weakness it is in the fact that he doesn’t have the short order cook coordination of being able to swing several dishes at once.  But still everything was hot, except the orange juice and fresh fruit, and all was delicious. And he doesn’t skimp on the portions either.  He told me not to worry about eating everything and I replied that if I did then I’d need a nap afterwards.

After breakfast he got out the maps and we discussed my route on how best to get to the Nashville area.  He showed me a couple of excellent routes which was, maybe a few miles out of my way but with the scenery along each route it was well worth it.

My stay there was excellent and having never stayed at a B&B before I am now hooked.  Just about 3 hours from my stomping grounds of Moreland, Newnan, LaGrange this makes an excellent little getaway.  I plan to go back; hopefully in the near future.
