I have finally found a listing of trail data for the Pinhoti Trail. From this listing I can plan my hike better. After looking it over one of the first things to strike me was that the Talladega National Forest and the Weogufka State Park are not not "close" together. There is only a little more than 5 miles of wood trails before I have to hit the roads to make it over to Talladega. Then it's over 17 miles before I can get to the Trammel Trailhead in Talladega. That's an over night somewhere between the two trailheads. And I see nothing that shows a campsite along these roads. I believe that it would be prudent to start at the Trammel Trailhead.
Since my pack isn't going to be anywhere near what it was the first time I tackled the Pinhoti I should make better time. If I start at Trammel Trailhead then it is possible to make Cheaha Mtn State Park. If I can do a constance 12 miles a day then I can actually make Cave Springs, Ga. But I have the feeling that Maxwell Gap will be where my wingman, Chucky, will pick me up.
My menu for the Trek will be simple:
Breakfast will be oatmeal, (peaches and cream, a course!), with coffee.
Lunch and Dinner will be monotonous because I'll be carrying 78 oz of beef jerky and 78 oz of my special trail mix. A pack of Toaster Pastries per day to supplement and 4 oz of dried fruit per day as an end of the day treat.
I am going to take along a container of Honey as a power boost and the powder drink mix.
This is going to average out to a little over a pound of food per day, which I figured out from last time that I actually ate less than a pound.
I still need a lot more planning to do.
