The Journey of twenty-two hundred miles begins with just a single step. Lao Tzu (paraphrased) This blog is mainly about my excursion upon the Appalachian Trail. This is a journey that has been 15 years in the planning stage and on March 20, 2022 it will see that plan being executed. An update on both Pat and James.

Pat had her surgery as planed and one thing they found while they were doing the surgery was sclerosis of the liver. She was discharged from the hospital within the week and then in only a couple of days she was sent back to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio due to complications from the chemotherapy.

The bottom line is, because of the sclerosis she can not handle the chemotherapy.

Eddie informed me today that they have made the decision to put Pat on hospice.

He called me and I was stunned. He didn't go into great details and I didn't press because I knew he had a lot on his mind.

I called Janice to see if I could get more details from here and was hit by a double whammy. If I understood Janice right they're fixing to put James on a ventilator because of his breathing. Janice has so much on her plate now that I was the one informing her of Eddie and Pat's decision to put Pat on hospice.

I've contacted Leslie and we're trying to coordinate about going out there. Eddie wasn't sure about a time frame on Pat so it could be weeks but I do want to get out there while she still has her facilities about her to say, "Good bye".

My walk planed for next week is put on hold until the fall. I'm using that week instead to go out to Texas, so I'll be heading out Monday morning to San Antonio.

I'll keep posting as often as I find out something.
