The Journey of twenty-two hundred miles begins with just a single step. Lao Tzu (paraphrased) This blog is mainly about my excursion upon the Appalachian Trail. This is a journey that has been 15 years in the planning stage and on March 20, 2022 it will see that plan being executed. An Update on the "Christmas Turkey"

While I was off I had gotten a call from the Butts Co. Sheriff’s department. Butts Co. is located on I-75 south of Atlanta; Jackson is the county seat, and about 60 miles away from me. I didn’t have my phone on because I didn’t want to listen to work whine at me about how short handed they are. When I went in Friday night I turned on my phone and realize that I had a message. I called Saturday and talked to a Sheriff’s deputy and he told me that Randy was in the hospital at Grady in Atlanta. Seem that last weekend he arrived at the truck stop in Jackson, Ga. Behind it is a Hobo town. Randy, like Randy is known to do, got into an altercation with three individuals. One of them set fire to both Randy and his belongings. Randy sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burn from the chest down.

I went to see him at the burn unit at Grady hospital. Right now he is in the Burn ICU. They had done skin grafts on him, and have had to do a lot on his right leg, the one that had damage to it when he lost part of his foot. The main thing is to keep infection from setting in. His chest from about the nipples downward to his legs is burned. The second degree burns are on the chest area and the third are on the legs. His face, arms, nor hands were burned.

He should be in Grady, under ideal conditions for 6 to 8 weeks.

I gathered up numbers, and got the number of his social worker. I will be working close with her trying to get his VA Id. back and even see if when he leave Grady we can’t get him into the facility in Dublin, Ga.

I shall keep you posted.
