Randy is now in the step down unit at Grady Memorial in Atlanta. His spirits are up and he is walking around with the aid of a walker.
I have talked to his social worker and they are setting him up for receiving outpatient care when he leaves. The discussion of an assisted living facility was brought up and the social worker told me of the main one that Grady used. I talked to Randy about that and he seems receipt of the idea.
The assisted living facility is called Southern Care Home and is located off of Boulevard in Atlanta, near Grant Park and Zoo Atlanta. It is one of the older homes in the area, a two story colonial type. The facility is set up to house 18 people. It has a live-in couple that watches over the place plus staff. He’ll get three meals a day and two snacks. They will provide him transportation for his medical appointments.
On the down side: He is eligible for more Gov. disability checks. Another $800+ a month from SSI and Georgia has a $25,000 grant to Victims of Violent Crimes which Randy is eligible for. That’s all he needs is more money coming in. For those of you that don’t grasp what I mean then think of this: Randy is getting $881 a month for VA disability but he is consider homeless. He got a check on the 3rd of January and by the 9th when he was burned he only had some “chump change” on him. No, he ain’t putting that money back for some rainy day.
I don’t know when he will be getting this money in but hopefully there will be a delay between when he is release and when these checks start coming in.
