The Journey of twenty-two hundred miles begins with just a single step. Lao Tzu (paraphrased) This blog is mainly about my excursion upon the Appalachian Trail. This is a journey that has been 15 years in the planning stage and on March 20, 2022 it will see that plan being executed. Dryer Trouble

Last Monday I washed a load of clothes and put them in the dryer. When I went to retrieve them, they were only half-dry. My first thought was that the heater elements were gone or going. Therefore, I turned it back on and listened for a moment and I realized that the drum was not turning. So then, I thought that maybe it was the motor but the blower was working and I seemed to remember that the blower motor and drum motor was one and the same. Well, all this was happening about 15 mins. before I had to leave for work. So, I put on a half dried uniform and went to save lives in Troup Co., one patient at a time.

That morning as I got off from work I pulled, the dryer out and opened up the small panel in the bottom to have a look-see and saw a broken belt. Whew. Is that all. I pulled the belt out, measured it and then proceeded to look up appliance parts in the phone book. Every appliance parts was connected to a service repairman. In addition, no, none of them would just sell me the belt. So, I got on line and found the belt and ordered two of them to be sent second day FedEx. Now, I have had this dryer, a Hotpoint, from 1987 and it was used when I got it. This is the only trouble I've had from it. Therefore, a lot of you readers are thinking right now, "Why did he get two belts for? Is he planning to keep that machine forever? If one belt lasted 22+ years then it'll be a long time before he'll have to order belts again."
Not, exactly.
I'm wise enough to know that if I was to only order one belt then something would have happened and that belt would have broke and I would have to had waited for another one to be shipped out.
I've got the parts on Thursday but I worked that day and that was also the same day that we had a confirmed case of Swine Flu in LaGrange. GA and I was a little tired when I got home so I waited until this morning and fixed it.
And fixed it I did. It took me a few trials and errors bef0re I remembered how to get the belt around the drum and then onto the motor and set the tension but I do’d it. And it reminded me why I don’t want to try to make a living doing such as that anymore.
