Getting ready for my annual vacation; packing up and checking off. The Cats knows something is coming up and are all excited. I wonder just how excited they're going to be when they realize that I'm going and they're not. I've found a kind hearted soul that'll look in on Dennis, Socks, Mr. Smokey Bones, and The Notorious C. A. T. but Figaroe is coming with me this time. She's getting old and I worry about her. Plus her diet is different and I can't set out a large amount of food for her and expect her to not eat it all at once, or the other cats to try and crash in on it.
My Route for this trip will be simple but long, I expect to put about 3000 miles behind me before I get back, which is only an extra thousand if I went straight to Eddie and Pat's and then straight back.
I'm first going to go to Huntsville, AL. by way of US 431 and look up Mr. Carlton Russell. I've found an obituary notice on the web listing a Carlton Russell being deceased in 1999 so I may not be able to find out much unless his widow is still at their address.
Then it's to Charlie Whitten's place to spend the night with Charlie, Mary Kay and Jackson and watch Lucy the dog and Figaroe the cat get into an octagon ring for a UFC style match. I'll allow Figaroe and Jackson to get acquainted but I'm sure Fig will enjoy spending the night in the cab of the truck.
From there I'll leave out Tuesday morning and take US 70 West through Nashville, TN. and Western Tennessee thru Memphis, and thru Arkansas into Oklahoma till I can swing up northward to see Robert, Erica and Family in Lawton OK. I should arrive Wednesday. And if I haven't been able to get in contact with them then I go see the Chisholm Trail Museum in Duncan, OK.
On Thursday I plan to swing down to Abilene, TX. to meat up with Charles Leon and we'll go see the replica of the Reluctant Dragon at Dyess AFB. From there I may follow Charles home and then leave out on Friday going toward Van Horn, TX. and from there following US 90 to Eddie and Pat's place in Dunlay, TX. One of the things I want to see along the US 90 Route will be Judge Roy Bean's Courthouse. It may be Saturday before I get to Eddie and Pat's.
I'll spend Easter with them, and I believe they have plans to visit her sister Louise on Easter, (can't remember where Louise lives at the moment but seems it's north-east of San Antonio), then I'll rest up and see Aunt Nell and the Raborn's on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday I'll start heading for home.
Going home I'm going to follow US 90 and I -10 until Seguin TX. where I can pick up Alt US 90 to bypass all that construction on the interstate in Houston. Alt US 90 goes all the way into Beaumont TX. From there I'll travel I-10 and I-12 through Louisiana, (US 90 goes through New Orleans and I don't need the 'Nawlene distraction when heading back), and pick up US 90 again right before Mississippi. I'll take US 90 thru Mississippi which is very scenic, and Alabama, into Florida to pick up US 29 in Pensacola Florida. From there I'll go straight back to my house. I should arrive by Thursday evening or even Friday morning. And Friday night it'll be back to work.
So ya'll keep a watch on this space for updates.....
