The Journey of twenty-two hundred miles begins with just a single step. Lao Tzu (paraphrased) This blog is mainly about my excursion upon the Appalachian Trail. Mr. Smokey Bones

blog header

Last Friday after I got off of work in the am, I needed to get some cash money and then drop off some bills. Well, I was wanting to go to the main branch on Bullsboro and get off at exit 41. That way I could drop off the electric bill, bank, then drop off the cable bill and jump back on the interstate at exit 47 then come on back down. I zoned out for a moment while driving and realized that I was going under the hwy. 16 overpass.

Oops; I missed my exit.

Well, I decided to go to exit 47, (no other choice) and do the banking at the lakeside branch just up from Wal-Mart, then drop off the cable, then the electric. Well, while I was waiting at the drive window I noticed some kittens playing under a bush out in front of the bank. So after I was done I pulled over and went to investigate. There were about 5 kittens under the bushes. Had one that was black, one brown, an orange tabby, and two gray tiger stripes. The tellers saw me get out and one came out to talk to me and tell me that they were just about ready for new homes. They been sitting out food for the kittens and the kittens been eating. The momma came up and she was a pretty tiger stripe too. The kittens were a little on the skittish side and I went down to one knee for a moment to allow them to get use to me. One of the gray tiger stripes got to close and I grabbed him. Oh, he spitted at me like he was a big cat but I held on and put him down on top of the bush and kept petting him. Took maybe a minute for the purrs to start. Then he went home with me.

Well, I got home and showed him to Figaroe and she gave me a look of, "O' lawdy, look what the human dragged in." But after a couple of tentative sniffs took up with the kitten. After a while I took him to the kennel and introduced him to The Notorious C.A.T. C.A.T. wanted nothing to do with the new kitten. Spit, hiss, and stayed on the exact opposite side from the kitten. But I figured the kitten will grow on him.

Sure 'nuff the next morning when I went to check on them, They were both curled up into a tight ball together. I let them out and they played on the dinning room floor, where I have the computer set up, at my feet. C.A.T. is very aggressive but the kitten was giving back as good as he was getting. I realize I was calling the kitten, "Smokey" and decided that was a good name for him, and then added the"Bones" part. So here's to Mr. Smokey Bones.

I called folks I knew and found homes for the other four kittens but when I went to pick them up, Momma Cat had other plans and moved them. Oh, well. I do hope those other kittens end up in good homes.
