The Journey of twenty-two hundred miles begins with just a single step. Lao Tzu (paraphrased) This blog is mainly about my excursion upon the Appalachian Trail. This is a journey that has been 15 years in the planning stage and on March 20, 2022 it will see that plan being executed. The last word on Lake Suzy.

Happy New Year to all, and I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable one.

I spent my New Years working. We had a busy night; had to deal with more people getting drunk, doped and "whatever". It was about two in the morning before my partner and I realize that the New Year was upon us. That was when we had a little bit of a breather and was catching up on our reports. We called into 911 to get our case numbers and times, Troup Co. ran over 10370 calls last years, and when the New Year came in the case numbers started back to 1. That's when we realize that we were in the New Year.

It did quiet down by New Years night, so we did have a very easy one. But we did have to deal with a SID case; a seven month old little girl. She was found around 4 am. And when we got to the house, mayhem was in progress. The family was in total hysterical. Fire and Rescue was already on the scene when we arrive and CPR was in process but rigor mortis had already set in. In such a situation we loaded the child up and worked her and took her into the ER. The family wasn’t allowed in the ER and when we got her into a room the Dr. on duty called it.
I have had to deal with older people passing, people my age passing, and even younger adults, but this was the first baby I had to deal with and quite frankly, it hit me what had happen after we turn the child over to the ER, and it took me a while to compose myself.
Now don’t think I was blaming myself for the death of the child, I know I had nothing to do with it and there was no way we could have brought the child back. It was just the shock of having to deal with it for the first time. I am sure that I will have to deal with this situation many times more in my career.

During the night we had some substantial rain. My guestimation is probably about 1 inch, (one of these days I will put my rain gage out). When I got home, I had no Lake Suzy. The drain in front worked like it should and what would naturally accumulate in the yard was carried away by my new bar ditch. So, this is the last word.
