Yesterday, I went and rented a log splitter for the weekend and set to work on splitting logs. I've had someone come and cut the logs into appropriate lengths so that a splitter could handle them but I didn't check their work. Well quite a number of the logs were of proper length but a large number wasn't. Ya'know, I hate someone looking over my shoulder on my work and I tend to give others the benefit of the doubt but I've really should have looked this job over more carefully. That doesn't mean that I didn't split about three cords worth of wood, but I could have been done with the splitting if that job was done right.
Oh, well.
I'll have to go and get a 28" to 32" chain saw, rented a course. and cut the remaining logs in two for ease of handling. I'll probably do that after I've stopped feeling like I've gone upside a mac trucks head and that truck showed me the errors of my ways.
To put it another way, I'm sore.
After it got dark I went to the county fair so I could get my fill of food that I would normally not eat at any other time of the year. This was my first time at the new fair grounds and it was nicely done. One of the things about this fairgrounds is that it can't be seen from the road, I'm sure that aggravates the carnies. But I walked around and saw some of the exhibits and got a polish dog with peppers and onions then a funnel cake and looked over the rides and games of possible chance and then listened to a band that was on playing some of the southern rock favorites. It was a three piece band and it wasn't bad, the lead guitarist got lost for a moment but that was about it.
Then I came home and went to bed.
Then I got up again to walk the charlie horse out of my left leg.
Then I laid down again.
And got back up again because both legs had gotten cramps.
Then I laid down again, only to spend the next 10 minutes hollering and pounding on my legs until the cramps stopped.
And slept like a log that I haven't splitted yet.
I got up on Sunday and went to the Home depot and got some spray paint to mark the logs that was going to need to be recut and a wedge and a sledge to split some of the hollow logs. Then I came home and marked and pulled out the last few that the splitter could handle and split them. Now I'm resting for a few minutes before I start gathering up that wood to pile and then stick a For Sale sign on. 'Cuz I ain't about to give it away.
Oh, well, time to subject myself to more abuse.
