Deen married J.W. "Bill" Bales in 1945, a WWII combat veteran and was widowed by him in 1991 after 46 years. They had two children, Shirley Lee and J.W. II.

She moved to Odessa, Tx. in 2000 to be near her son, Charles, and daughter, Shirley, and grandchildren. She suffer a stroke in early 2001 and lived with Charles since that time.

I remember meeting her from the late seventies and early eighties and I was impressed with her bearing. This was a Lady worthy of respect.
